Wallenberg Days > 2018 Raoul Wallenberg Day
The WALLENBERG-SUGIHARA CIVIL COURAGE AWARD will be presented to BC lawyer, Alayne Fleischmann* , who while working in quality control at a large financial company in New York, discovered and tried to stop “massive securities fraud”. She was repeatedly blocked, but persevered and left a paper trail. Bank practices like this led to the 2008 global financial crisis, impacting millions of people. US authorities called on Alayne as a witness and levied a $9 billion fine on the bank.
