Courageous Rescue from Afghanistan

Dedicated to the memory of Mursal Nabizada

Afghanistan's Taliban rulers progressively deny women the right to take part in public life. Those who were MPs have been targeted ruthlessly. The WALLENBERG - SUGIHARA CIVIL COURAGE AWARD was presented to Corey Levine, who has worked courageously in Afghanistan and Pakistan to help former MPs escape to safer countries and shared her experiences.

Supporting Speakers

  • Elizabeth May, MP, member of the all-party panel of Canadian MPs that worked together to aid Corey Levine's efforts.
  • Gulalai Mohammadi, the youngest person elected to the Afghan Parliament in 2018, who escaped to Canada in 2024 with her family.
